Many years ago, a close friend gave us a challenge. His words were, "Intentionally serve together every chance you get, model coupleness and oneness, and see how long it takes your friends and others around to see you as one." We took this challenge to heart and became resolved to the notion that we would become as one - no longer would it be Eric or Jennifer, but Eric and Jennifer.

As we began our journey as one, we were led to serve together in the marriage ministry of our church. Right away, we became trained as a mentor couple. This new experience provided us with a great opportunity to minister as a couple to other couples.

As we became more involved with the marriage ministry, we grew increasingly passionate over watching others grow together in their faith and the effect that had over all the other areas of their life. During one particular ministry meeting, we discovered that a great need was lacking in not just our church, but churches everywhere. While most churches were well equipped to counsel couples during times of crisis, they were not proactively providing support for couples to enrich their marriages. And even if they wanted to, there was nothing in place to know how.

Suddenly, it became clear to us that the Lord had set us on a path to prepare us for such a time and opportunity as this. We began to process just what an organization might look like to minister to this need within the church. Seeking the wisdom of seasoned marriage advocates from all over the country, a meeting was convened on November 11, 2003. The result of that meeting was the ministry God has given us to steward, The Association of Marriage and Family Ministries (AMFM).

Based on the premise that the church has been God's change agent for sustainable impact in our culture, AMFM was founded to serve the needs of the church and all those called to marriage and family ministry. Our focus is to train the church using models with long-term strategies, rather than just a one-time event or "book of the month".

We want to ensure that the church is equipped to meet people at their point of need, just as Christ did during His time on earth. As such, AMFM equips to a broad spectrum within marriage and family ministry that includes pre-marital, marriage enrichment, remarriage, single parenting, stepfamilies and much more.

We continually seek the vision God has placed on our hearts - a new wave of outreach (evangelism) in the form of marriage and family ministry. Our desire is that He may be revealed through healthy marriages and strong families, in churches and communities across this nation, to bring thousands to His Son Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
